OVERVIEW

Asteria Arts and Music Festival looks forward to soaking in the sounds as a community while maintaining our 800 acres Punta Gorda grounds. We give thanks for your shared commitment to protecting our home, mother earth and each other.

LOVE YOUR HOME

The Love Your Home Commandments are designed not to dictate how Asterian’s should be and act, but as a reflection of Asteria’s community ethos and culture as it has organically developed since our beginnings. We do encourage all Asterian’s to love their temporary home at the festival grounds, aiming to respect, protect, and enjoy our camping spaces, environment, and community.

  1. Thou shall love and enjoy your home, including; the festival grounds, infrastructures, art, our community, and the environment.

  2. Thou shall respect tent and camping areas by keeping them clean and free of trash.

  3. Thou shall protect the environment by recycling!

  4. Thou shall honor thy neighbor.

  5. Thou shall not invade another’s camping space.

  6. Thou shall play loud music at appropriate times.

  7. Thou shall lead with kindness.

  8. Thou shall ask for consent.

  9. Thou shall not leave their tent behind.

  10. Thou shall leave no other traces of camping during clean up.

SLUMBER PARTIES ARE ONLY FUN IF EVERYONE CLEANS UP BEFORE THEY LEAVE.

An estimated 80 percent of trash generated by music festivals comes from what’s left behind by campers (Treehugger, 2018).

Here are 3 steps to leaving nothing but danceprints:
Find Green Rave Station(s)

   ·      (2) onsite stations (Stage 3 and Vendor) a home of environmental dialogue, green game(s) and trash/recycling               bag campsite refill distribution.

See Something, Chuck Something!

   ·      Trash attracts more trash; please pick up any trash you see on the ground.

Community Clean Up

   ·      Sweep your campsite in a grid pattern, picking up EVERYTHING. Please join us at Stage 3 Monday, 9am-

11am for a community cleanup to ensure nothing is left behind in our festival home but dance-prints.  In Asterias          past we’ve cleaned up the site in less than 2 HOURS…The challenge is ON to beat our own record this year!

   ·      Nearby off-site RV Dumping Station:

Big Tree RV Resort: 2626 SE Hwy 70, Arcadia, FL 34266

PROTECT THE OCTOPI!

New home, same respect. Asteria is situated within the Charlotte Harbor Watershed, which spans 350 square miles to include 13 lakes/ponds, 21 rivers/streams/canals and 5 bays/bayous... that lead ALL THE WAY TO THE OCEAN! We encourage Asterians to explore, protect, respect and enjoy the festival ecosystem and its inhabitants.

IT'S WITHIN OUR POWER TO MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Asteria Arts and Music Festival is committed to driving down infrastructure power demands onsite by employing the following energy savings initiatives;  switch off policy, electronic hibernation mode, energy saving features, baseline diagnostics and staff education. It is in our power to go green!

DON’T IDLE AROUND, UNPACK YOUR SITE AND START TO BOOGIE

Did you know 2 minutes spent idling is equal to 1 mile of driving (Turn It Off, 2020)! Asteria has adopted an anti-idling policy because idling your vehicle gets you nowhere…

ASTERIA EMPLOYEES ARE SO ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY OUR SKIN IS TURNING GREEN

We will never ask you to do something that we wouldn’t do ourselves. Two Thirds of festival goers stated that waste reduction at festivals is their number one environmental priority (Live Nation, 2019). Asteria’s green team strategically gathers weekly to ensure our efforts of past, commitments of today, and priorities of the future align with the environmental and socially conscious values of organizers, vendors, artists and guests.

“HELLO WASTE, I’D LIKE TO SPEAK TO YOUR MANAGER”

Know before your throw. It is reported that only 60-80 percent of recycling is actually recycled, the remainder goes in the trash. One mistake can mess up an entire bin of recycling. Please put only the following materials into the recycling collection containers onsite free of liquids and food waste (Punta Gorda, 2018).

STAYING HYDRATED IS IMPORTANT, BUT REUSING A WATER BOTTLE MAKES IT RAD.

Please be sure to pack your reusable water bottle! Humans buy 1 MILLION plastic water bottles globally PER MINUTE. Only 9% of that million will be recycled leaving 910,000 plastic waters bottles displaced every 60 seconds (Nace, 2017). The majority of the remaining 910,000 recyclable, yet un-recycled, plastic water bottles will be diverted to landfills where their make-up begins the 400-year process of decomposition (Nace, 2017). Asteria’s water bar will provide a free opportunity to encourage guest hydration and reduce plastic waste.

BULK SMASH!

Asteria is committed to lightening the load on the environment by buying bulk in efforts to reduce packaging waste and minimize transport pollution. Please join us in ‘eco’ shopping as you prepare to join us in celebration. Buying bulk is worth it, food packaging accounts for nearly 45% of America’s landfills (TGF, 2019).
